Documentation
Create game-ready pixel sprites from start to finish. This guide walks you through the entire process.
1. Getting Started
Animyx lets you create fully animated pixel sprites for your games. You can generate a sprite from a text description, or import your own image. Then you define leg and arm regions, generate animations, and export for your engine.
- Sign in with Google
- Go to Generate Sprites
- Create or import a base sprite
- Set the leg region (required for walk, run, jump, stun)
- Optionally set the arm region (for punch animation)
- Generate animations
- Export to Aseprite or your game engine
New users get 10 free credits to try the platform. Watch the full tutorial video on the generate page for a step-by-step walkthrough.
2. Credits & Pricing
Actions cost credits. One full character (base + all animations) uses about 5 credits.
| Action | Credits |
|---|---|
| Generate base sprite | 3 |
| Regenerate base (2 free if no animations yet) | 0–3 |
| Generate all animations | 2 |
| Regenerate animations | 1 |
| Export .aseprite file | 2 |
| Export engine spritesheet (.zip) | 1 |
Importing your own sprite is free. Editing (background removal, pixel fixes) is also free.
To get more credits, visit Pricing to subscribe or buy credit packs. Export is unlocked after your first purchase (including coupon redemption).
3. Base Sprite
Generate with AI
Enter a description of your character (e.g. "A brave knight in silver armor with a red cape"). Choose size (32×32 or 64×64) and style (Retro, Clean, or Dark). Click Generate Sprite. The AI creates a pixel-art base frame.
Import Your Own
Click Import your own sprite and select a PNG, GIF, WebP, or JPEG. Choose the target size (32, 64, or 128). The image is resized to fit. You can edit it after import to remove the background or fix pixels.
If you're not happy with the result, you get 2 free regenerations before generating animations. After that, regeneration costs credits.
4. Leg & Arm Regions
Animations need to know which pixels belong to the legs and (for punch) the punching arm. You define these with a lasso tool.
Leg Region (Required)
Click Set next to Legs. Click around the legs to draw a polygon. Include both legs and the pelvis. Click near the first point (white dot) to close the shape, then click Done. The leg region powers idle, walk, run, jump, and stun animations.
- Desktop: Click to add points. Use Undo to remove the last point.
- Mobile: Tap to add points. Tap near the first point to close.
Punch Arm Region (Optional)
Click Set next to Punch Arm. Draw a polygon around only the right (punching) arm. This enables the punch animation. If you skip this, you'll get idle, walk, run, jump, and stun only.
5. Animations
Once the leg region is set, click Generate All Animations. The system creates:
- Idle — breathing / subtle movement
- Walk — walking cycle
- Run — faster run cycle
- Jump — jump arc
- Stun — hit reaction (Normal or Glitch style)
- Punch — punch attack (only if arm region is set)
Use the animation buttons above the preview to cycle through them. You can regenerate animations if you want a different result; it costs fewer credits than the first generation.
Tip: Remove the background and fix any pixel issues in the base sprite before generating animations. The editor has a background-removal tool and pixel brush.
6. Editing Your Sprite
Switch to Edit mode in the preview panel. You can:
- Remove background — Click the wand to auto-detect and remove the background. Undo is supported.
- Draw pixels — Use the brush to fix or add pixels. Pick a color from the palette or from the canvas.
- Erase — Use the eraser to remove pixels.
Changes apply to the base sprite. If you've already generated animations, you may want to regenerate them after significant edits.
7. Export
Export your sprite and all animations together. Available after your first purchase (plan, credit pack, or coupon). You need base + idle + walk at minimum.
Aseprite Export
Download a single .aseprite file with your sprite and every animation (idle, walk, run, jump, stun, punch). Open in Aseprite and start editing — no setup required.
Engine Export
Downloads a .zip with:
- Spritesheet PNG (all frames in a horizontal strip)
- Metadata JSON (frame indices, fps, loop mode)
- README.txt with setup instructions
Choose your target: Generic, Godot, Unity, or Phaser. The JSON format is tailored for each engine.
Set a filename before exporting. The downloaded file uses that name.
8. Coupon Codes
Promo or NFT-holder coupon codes grant credits. Go to Pricing, enter your code, and click Redeem. Credits are added immediately.
- One coupon per user per calendar month
- Codes are case-insensitive
- Redeeming a coupon unlocks export (same as buying a plan or pack)
